Harris Park is one of the largest city parks and enjoys a central location in downtown Dunlap, TN. The park site is surrounded by municipal uses and marginalized lots, making it a prime candidate for redevelopment. When built, it will also serve as a catalyst in attracting higher density residential uses. Before renovations, the park largely consisted of an open grass field with a children’s playground and a pavilion at the North end of the park. The City of Dunlap joined forces with Farmer | Morgan in 2012 to plan and design park improvements to be implemented in phases. Phase I of the Dunlap Harris Park Renovations include a bandstand pavilion complete with a dressing room and storage room, two groves of red maples, turf open space, sidewalks, irrigation, and lighting. This phase of construction was completed in June of 2015 and has already made its impact on the City of Dunlap through drawing a huge crowd for its first event on July 4, 2015. Although the bandstand is designed to provide a space for outdoor concerts and performances, the space has been designed to be flexible for picnics, family reunions, and other small gatherings. Additionally, the tree groves and turf areas act as flexible spaces for both active and passive recreational uses.
